The Honolua Store

The Honolua Store, located in the Kapalua Resort, is another one of our favorite spots for breakfast, especially before or after a casual morning walk on the Kapalua Coastal Trail. Their wonderful coffee bar offers freshly brewed coffee creations and a large selection of pastries, while their made-to-order breakfast options are perfect for enjoying on the go or out on their relaxing lanai.

This historic store was once the general store for plantation workers when Kapalua was a working pineapple plantation, adding a rich touch of history to your visit.

The Gazebo

The Gazebo, perched on the shores of Napili Bay, is hands down one of Maui’s most iconic breakfast spots—and for good reason! Though the line gets long, it’s more than worth the wait. Arriving early is your best bet, with their doors opening at 7:30 AM. While you wait, sip on complimentary coffee and take in the breathtaking ocean views. Papi’s Ohana is a local legend on Maui, famous for serving the BEST cinnamon rolls you’ll ever have. Don`t be surprised if the line forms before they even open—it`s all part of the experience! Their cinnamon rolls are massive, buttery, flaky and topped with a rich, creamy glaze. Due to their popularity, arriving early is key to snagging one before they sell out. Their rolls are baked fresh in batches throughout the morning, ensuring you get them warm.

Kai Cafe

Kai Café, located in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, is the perfect spot for a quick yet luxurious breakfast stop. We love coming here for their gourmet coffee, sourced right from Maui, offering a true taste of the island. Pair it with one of their freshly baked, in-house pastries, made by their award-winning chef, for a truly delicious treat. With seating available in their lobby lanai, you can sip your coffee while taking in the gorgeous views and relaxing atmosphere.

A’a Roots

A’a Roots

A’a Roots is one of our favorite organic spots for a healthy and beautifully presented breakfast on Maui. This unique, vegan eatery reimagines global comfort food with its own distinctive flair, creating meals that are not only delicious but look like works of art. It`s a popular hotspot among surfers and locals alike, thanks to its fresh, made-to-order dishes that are unlike anything else on the island.

One of our favorite items is the Tropical Acai Bowl with passion fruit, a delightful combination of acai, homemade granola, local bananas, coconut, macadamia nuts and passion fruit, all topped with edible flowers. Their freshly pressed juices and daily breakfast specials are not to be missed. Every visit to A’a Roots is an opportunity to experience something both healthful and visually stunning!

The Tasty Crust

The Tasty Crust

The Tasty Crust hands down takes the title of the “neighborhood diner” of Maui. You won’t find a lot of frills, no fancy menu or décor, but you will find some of the most delicious comfort food and traditional diner menu favorites, but with an island spin. The Tasty Crust is a legend on Maui, opening during WWII, and has even been showcased on Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown.”

We recommend coming for breakfast and trying their famous Banana Pancakes, or the very popular island favorite, the Loco Moco. The Loco Moco consists of white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg and gravy.

If you want to get away from the tourist hotspots and dine where the locals eat, it can’t get more local than the Tasty Crust.

T Komoda Store and Bakery

T Komoda Store and Bakery

If you ask any local on Maui where the very best place to get Malasada’s would be, they would tell you T Komoda Store and Bakery. If you aren’t familiar with Malasadas, they are Hawaii’s form of a doughnut- but better! Malasada’s are a Portuguese doughnut but without the hole. They can be filled with a variety of fillings including haupia (coconut), guava, chocolate and more.

T Komoda Store and Bakery is located up country in historic Makawao Town and on any given morning you will find the line out the door of hungry customers eager to purchase their famous, warm Malasadas. A trip to T Komoda Store and Bakery is a trip worth taking.

Kihei Cafe

Kihei Cafe

Kihei Cafe is one of Maui’s most beloved breakfast spots, renowned for serving generous portions of classic Hawaiian comfort food. Its original location in Kihei became so popular that they opened a second spot in Lahaina, bringing their famous breakfast fare to the west side of the island.

Some of their most well-known dishes include the Loco Moco, banana macadamia nut pancakes and chorizo-stuffed breakfast burritos. The Loco Moco, a traditional island favorite, features a bed of rice topped with a hamburger patty, fried eggs, and rich, savory gravy—a perfect choice for a hearty meal.

Whether you visit their Kihei or Lahaina location, Kihei Caffe is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a truly unforgettable Maui breakfast.
